Established in 1995, Nanyang Chinese Dance has nurtured many generations of excellent dancers.
Nanyang Chinese Dance (NYCD) is a dance group consisting of almost 60 dancers with a strong passion for Chinese dance led by Mdm Ng Chin Ngee who was once also a member. Since our first time participating in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) in 1997, NYCD has always achieved the highest accolades.
We also hold our own biennial schoolwide Festival of Arts (FOA) in the years without SYF, where our dancers get to showcase various genres of Chinese dance such as Chinese classical dance (古典舞), Chinese ethnic dance (民族民间舞) and Modern Chinese dance (现代华族舞). FOA also provides dancers with a platform to showcase their talents outside of Chinese dance, including Latin dance, Ballet and other genres of dance.
Additionally, NYCD is privileged to have been invited to perform overseas at various prestigious events, such as at international dance festivals in Sweden, Korea and China. Locally, we have also had many wonderful opportunities to perform at large scale events such as the Youth Celebrate! 2015, Huayi: Chinese Festival of Arts 2020 at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, the Singapore Youth Festival 2023 Celebrations Concert at the Esplanade and the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations’ Spring Reception in 2024.
