Curriculum Showcase

The Nanyang Integrated Programme (IP) is a six-year programme for Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH) students, with years 1-4 spent at NYGH and years 5-6 at Hwa Chong Institution. The programme provides the flexibility to offer a customised curriculum leading to the GCE ‘A’ levels.

In NYGH, we believe students are keen to learn and are highly driven. The programme therefore aims to provide an enriching and challenging learning experience for high-ability students of diverse talents and background, and is built upon the school’s extensive heritage and culture of bilingualism, excellence and service.

In this spirit, NYGH introduced the Fusion curriculum to the Secondary One cohort in 2024.  Fusion is NYGH’s approach to an authentic and integrated curriculum that is designed to prepare students to think deeply and collaborate with their peers to solve real-world problems.  This approach emphasises the connection of concepts, knowledge, real-world experiences and 21st Century competencies ranging from reasoning to communication as well as civic and cross-cultural literacies.  Fusion also encourages students’ ownership of their learning and provides choice.

At the end of 2024, Fusion was reviewed and recommendations were made to improve the experience for both students and teachers.  In 2025, Fusion is offered to both Secondary One and Two students.  While the Fusion curriculum runs through the year, students and teachers will experience different intensity of the curriculum at different junctures.   Fusion begins at the beginning of the year with the introduction of the whole year’s curriculum, followed by skills and knowledge development via subjects or enrichment activities as well as engaging community partners via the school’s Community Education programme.  This would culminate in Term 2 with a three weeks (weeks 7-9) focus on  the Fusion curriculum and the major task using Design Thinking and Maker Education.  During the same period, students will also be engaging the real world through learning journeys, research, engaging with expert speakers and community partners. In Term 3 students will continue Fusion via interdisciplinary modules offered by various disciplines or subjects within the subject curriculum time.  This model allows for flexibility in planning, designing and implementation of the Fusion curriculum within the school’s Total Curriculum.
